Walter Lee Thomas was born August 13, 1941 to the late Connie D. Ward and Mary Thomas-Ward in Ward, Alabama
Walter accepted Christ at an erly age and joined the Ward Chapel AME Zion Church, Ward, Alabama.
Walter was educated in the Sumter County Public School System. He graduated from Kinterbish High School in 1960. After graduation, Walter moved to Brooklyn, New York for several years, then to Detroit, Michigan and finally moved back to Alabama where he made his home in Butler, Alabama.
On Sunday evening, July 5, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. at Hunstville Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama, God whispered to Walter and said, “Well done my good and faithul servant”.
Walter leaves to cherish his memories three sons, Calvin Jones, Los Angeles, CA, Walter Leroy Thomas, Racine, WI, Walter Thomas, Jr., Detroiot, MI; three daughters, Kim Rogers, Hartfort, CT, Cynthia Thomas and Toya Thomas both of Detroit, MI; seven step-children, Taita Sand, Christopher Locklear, Kara Licklear, Sharon, Breda, Linda, and Andrea George; twenty grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; three brothers, Mitchell (Joan) Coleman Pawley Island, SC, Curtis (Geraldine) Ward, Roland (Ennis) Ward, Ward, AL; five sisters; Georgia (Ceazer) Brooks, Yantley, AL, Nadine (Carl) Marshall, Ward, AL, Mildred (David Fraser, Sandra (Basil) Thomas, Hartford, CT, Darlene (Dennis Stephen), Port St. Lucie, FL; one aunt, Annie Bell Jackson, Halsell, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
