Walter L. Horton, 79 of Centralia, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at 7:40 A.M. at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Walter was born March 8, 1935 in Carrigan Township, Illinois, son of Earl Horton and Louise (Kirgan) Horton. He married Agnes M. Evans on February 5, 1955 and she survives.

Walter is survived his mother, his wife of 59 years, he is also survived by five sons: Terry Horton of Centralia, Tim Horton and wife Ruth of Sandoval, Tom Horton and girlfriend Jamie Moergen of Centralia, Tony Horton and wife Beth of Odin, and Troy Horton and husband Brandon of Mt. Vernon; three daughters: Teresa Horton of Odin, Tonya Estrada and husband Alvaro of St. Charles, Missouri, and Tiffany Hixenbaugh and husband Jason of Central City; 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Joann Horton and Nadine Eichhorn both of Davenport, Iowa; a nephew, James Cody of Davenport, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Betty Woods and five brothers: Charles Horton, Dale Horton, Loyd Horton, Robert Horton and Roy Gene Horton. Walter had a number of jobs during his lifetime: Pfeffers Feed and Seed, an oilfield worker, a short order cook for Midget Diner, Wides Service Station Manager, S&W Retreading, and he mowed grass all over town. He frequently went to McDonalds everyday for his cup of coffee. He liked to hunt and fish. He loved having his children and grandchildren around him. Walter always put others before himself. He will be greatly missed.
