Walter Joe Primus, 92, of Vincennes, formerly of Lawrence County, passed away Thursday August 21, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospital with his family at his bedside. He was born August 7, 1922 in Knox County the son of Joseph L. & Elvira Minderman Primus.

He was a graduate of Decker High School in 1940 and began his career in agriculture with his father. His love of the land as he pursued his career lead him to settle in Lawrence County on the Washburn farm where he and his wife, Rita Vieck Primus, whom he married on January 5, 1944 at St. Thomas Catholic Church began a life of 70 years together. He was a lifelong farmer in Lawrence County, he attended Vincennes Business College having studied accounting, he served on the board of Hutton School, Lawrence County Hospital Board formerly as chairman, he was past faithful navigator of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council #712, former member of the Elks, served as commissioner of the Wabash River Levy Commission and held membership at The Old Cathedral Catholic Church where he was an active member in various church activities.

His legacy to his family and friends was his kindness, outgoing nature and his concern for his community. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rita Vieck Primus, their children, Charles Primus, and his wife Nadine of Lawrenceville, IL, Anita Nelson of Peoria, IL, Karen Bradford of Casey, IL, Louis Primus of Lawrenceville, IL and Roy Primus, and his wife Nancy of Niskayuna, NY. He was blessed with his grandchildren, Bruce Primus, Marvis Primus, Wayne Primus, Mike Nelson, Mark Nelson, Jeff Nelson, Mike Bradford, Marsha Bradford Keune PhD CPA, Holly Primus Morris and Ian Primus.

His great grandchildren, Brian Primus, Brittany Primus, Jordon Primus, Jessica Primus, Randi Schlueter, Joanna Capobianco, Corey Nelson, Chad Nelson, Brianna Nelson, Abby Farringer, Chris Farringer, Michelle Bradford and Linnette Morris. 8 Great-Great Grandchildren, a brother, Merlin R. Primus and his wife Billie Jean of Vincennes, a sister, Ruth Halter and her husband Bill of Lawrenceville, IL and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Elvira Primus, a daughter in law, Merry Grubb Primus, 2 sons in law, Bill Nelson and Harold Bradford and a brother and sister in law, Bill and Joan Primus.
