Walter ”Gene” ”Pepa” Zachary, 65, Anderson, died July 29, 2003 at Community Hospital, Anderson after a brief illness. He was born July 17, 1938 in Jamestown, Tennessee, and resided in Anderson. He lived in Anderson for most of his life. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis after working there for 11 years. He raced at Anderson Speedway for many years and loved to fish. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Smith Zachary; mother, Mary Zachary; daughters, Ruth Zachary, Peggy Sue & husband Wayne Ledbetter and Shirlene Zachary & fiance Thomas Richardson; son, Kenny & wife Misty Zachary; sisters, Peggy & husband Les McCord, Karen Jones and Sharon & husband Neal Allmond; brothers, Jack & wife Ina Zachary, Scott & wife Carol Zachary and Don Zachary; grandchildren, Mandra Zachary, Misty & husband Freddie Boggess, Stormy Zachary, Gary Buntin, Donald & wife Ashley Buntin, Ronnie Jarvis, Tyler Rector and Anthony Zachary; great granddaughter, Kathy Boggess and one great grandson on the way; also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Special Friend, Betty Willis. He was preceded by his father, Walter S. ”Pappy” Zachary in 1985, grandparents John C. Slaven and Octie Lena Downs, sister-in-law Rita Scott Zachary and son-in-law Charlie E. Buntin.
