Walter E. Luce Sr., 72
North Greenbush Walter E. Luce Sr., 72, formerly of Troy, died Friday at the Van Rensselaer Manor, after a long illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Frank and Mary Toner Luce and husband for 49 years of Nancy E. Phoenix Luce. He had resided in Troy all his life and attended Troy High School.
Mr. Luce was an operating engineer for Local 106 in Albany for 50 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of the Brunswick Lodge of Elks, Veteran’s Club of Lansingburgh, a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church in Troy and a former member of the ‘Old Goats’ of Mahr’s Place in South Troy. Many years ago, he was active in semi-pro softball and was an avid golfer and bowler. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors in addition to his wife include four daughters, Deborah Stacy (John) of Troy, Kathleen Camprone (John Snyder) of Wynantskill, Pamela Higgins (Victor) of Troy and Cynthia Schickler (Richard) of CT; two sons, John P. Luce (Patricia) of Troy and Walter E. Luce Jr. (Nicholl) of Troy; a brother, Robert Luce of Troy; a sister, Doris Suppe of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren, Farrah and Jennifer Stacy, Ashley and Ryne Luce, Joshua, Danielle and Toni Marie Camprone, Victor and Kyleigh Higgins and Jonathan and Noah Schickler; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Cameron; a loyal friend, Joe Vartigian of Poestenkill and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Karen M. Luce and four brothers, Francis, Richard, William and John Luce.
