Walter Ash “Red” Byrd, 90, died Monday, June 18, 2018, at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS..m….m. at the church..Born in Lexington, MS, to the late Jessie and Muzette Huffman Byrd, Mr. Byrd retired after 42 years from South Central Bell where he was the Central Office Manager. He was very proud of his career in the telephone company and the close relationships that he formed with his coworkers and maintained throughout the years.. He was a master, wooden toy maker creating trucks, trains and bow and arrows that he sold all over the United States. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church and was active in his Sunday School Class..He is survived by his wife, the love of his life for 66 years, Dorothy Anne Craney Byrd, daughters, Leigh Johnston and her husband, Ken of Canton, MS and Beverly Bennett and her husband, Wade of Lonetree, CO; grandchildren, Ryan Johnston and his wife, Lexie and Whitney Anne Butler and her husband, Joel and three great grandchildren, Samuel Ash Butler, Luke Chadwick Butler and James Kenneth Butler. The family would like to thank his special caregiver, Iesha Youngblood, whom he loved as a 3rd daughter and his caring St. Catherine’s family..
