RIVERTON / WEST HARTLAND –COLE – Wade E. Cole, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 15, 2020. He was the devoted husband of Beth Cole for 42 years. Born March 9, 1953 in Winsted; the son of Mildred (Hazard) Cole and the late Walter E. Cole, Jr. Wade grew up in Hartland and went to work for the town in 1975 as a member of the Highway Department where he served as Road Foreman for many years. Wade was a public servant, elected First Selectman for the Town of Hartland in 2003 and had held that position ever since. His community involvement went far beyond the duties of his elected grew up in the racing world and caught the #33 racing bug for life. He tirelessly worked on the cars he built and was constantly tweaking them to maintain and improve their handling and power. Wade can always be remembered for hauling his race car into the pits on his flatbed truck. He loved everything about racing to include the friendships he enjoyed with his racing team; but his greatest passion was driving the car each race. Wade loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, watching UConn basketball, and eating ice cream. He had a very gentle and playful soul and was a great person who always had a smile and kind word for anyone he met and loved to help others. Wade always reserved the most love for his wife, Beth. In addition to his loving wife and mother, he leaves his step children, Arlene Corban and husband George of Winsted, Paula Chenail and husband Steve of New Hartford and Lewis Gaskell and wife Britt of CO; cherished grandchildren, Maxwell Chenail of CO, Mariah Corban of Winsted, Emeline Corban of Winsted, Lewis Gaskell III of CO and Elise Gaskell of CO; a brother, John Cole of Hartland; and close extended family and friends as well as a community that meant the world to him. In addition to his dad, he was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Taylor Chenail and brother, Brian Cole. Wade’s life was filled with caring and concern, and he would not want to put any of us in danger of contracting the pandemic virus.
