W. Travis Schmitt, 36, of West Long Branch, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016. Beloved son of William and Deborah Schmitt of Tinton Falls. Loving brother of Melissa Schmitt and her husband Brian Hathaway. Devoted uncle of Hannah, Ava, Bree and William Hathaway. Cherished grandson of Shirley and the late John Schmitt, and the late Muriel and James Cottrell. Caring nephew of Thomas Allan Schmitt and wife Mary, Sandra Gordon and husband Arthur, Bonnie Bray, James Cottrell and Allan Cottrell and his wife Heather. Travis is also survived by many dedicated cousins and friends. Born in Long Branch, Travis was raised in West Long Branch and he was a 1998 graduate of Shore Regional High School. Travis enjoyed participating in high school athletics such as football and golf, he was a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and had even won a surfing scholarship. An avid outdoor sportsman, he relished hunting, fishing, snowboarding, white water rafting, surfing and always found his peace and home at the ocean. Travis attended Plymouth State University in New Hampshire and Bond University in Australia and worked as a Beach Surveyor and Replenishment Operator for Weeks Marine, which gave him the opportunity to travel to many parts of the country. A kind, generous and loving soul, Travis had the gift of a vibrant smile and the ability to make anyone laugh. He cherished his long-lasting friendships and leaves behind many friends whom he loved dearly, especially “The Fellas.
