W. Dan “Dutch” Karberg, age 88, of Wisconsin Rapids, formerly of Port Edwards, passed away Monday, October 31, 2022 at Arborview Court Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids.
Dutch was born March 9, 1934 in Port Edwards to Ferdinand and Celia (Johnson) Karberg. He graduated from John Edwards High School in Port Edwards in 1952. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley A. Deyo on April 16, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Edwards. He served his country in the Army National Guard.
He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Edwards where he served as an elder and an usher. He loved sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, and went to many games as a season ticket holder. He also enjoyed attending Milwaukee Bucks games.
Dutch was known as the “neighborhood dad” by the boys in the Port Edwards neighborhood where he lived, and he always made it a point to attend their games and activities. He also coached the Maples Motel team in an area softball league.
Dutch was an active member and past president of the Port Edwards Lions Club, working the fisheree and at Little Britches Rodeo for many years. He looked forward to his annual opening weekend fishing trip to Eagle River, WI with his buddies.
Dutch is survived by his daughter, Dawn (Mike) Fry; daughter-in-law, Janet Karberg; and grandchildren: Corey (Nikki) Karberg and their children Mason, Miles, Cohen, Asher and Jaxtyn and Kelly (Matt) Cournoyer and their children Hoyt, Journee, and Trinity. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; son, Randy; infant daughter, Kathy; and sisters Dorothy Karberg, Betty Dhein, and Caroline Schilling.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Arborview Court and Promedica Hospice for the exceptional care Dutch received.
