Vivian Marie Mussatto, of Jacksonville, IL died January 9, 2022, at the age of 92.
She was born May 6, 1929, in Oak Park, the daughter of Richard and Gladys Young Lynch. She married Robert Bonjean, Sr. in 1950, and later married Thomas Mussatto on July 4, 1969. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2010.
She is survived by four sons, Robert, Jr. (Carolyn) Bonjean, Michael Bonjean, Richard “Dick” Bonjean all of Jacksonville, and Patrick (Sharon) Bonjean of Franklin; four children she and Tom shared, Thomas Jr. (Sue) Mussatto of Worden, Mike (Pat) Mussatto of Chapin, Susan (Mostyn) Prosser of Jacksonville, and Patricia “Trish” (Mike) Halsne of Chapin; 14 grandchildren, Robert III, Chris, Andy and Abby Bonjean, Pam, Kelly and Jenny Bonjean, Jon Bonjean, Shannon Beiermann and Christian Bonjean, Kayla Holmes, Matt Bonjean, and Delaney Sieving; 9 shared grandchildren, Luke Mussatto, Lori Miller, Aaron Glossop, Amanda Webb, Matt Smith, Mykel and Micah Mussatto, Alec and Chase Halsne; 10 great grandchildren;11 shared great-grandchildren; nephew, Joseph Barrett and her beloved dog Misty. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Richard Lynch; sister, Nora Barrett; and granddaughter, Molly Bonjean.
Vivian graduated from Proviso High School in Maywood, Il in 1946. She attended MacMurray College, graduating in 1950. In 1969 she received a Masters Degree from Western Illinois University. Mrs. Mussatto taught for one year at Community Consolidated (now South Jacksonville) before staying home to raise her four sons. She returned to teaching in 1961. She taught at Our Saviour Grade School, Murrayville Grade School and Washington Grade School, retiring in 1992. In 1990, she received the Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching. Vivian was a member of the Church of Our Saviour. Over the years she belonged to and volunteered many hours to numerous organizations, Jacksonville Junior Women’s Club, Past President’s Club, Friends of the Library, Jacksonville Pilot Club, local Retired Teachers Association, Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America, and Passavant Hospital Auxiliary. She was a life member of the Illinois Education Association. She enjoyed traveling, reading, knitting, and following the many activities of her children, grandchildren and later great-grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. Her family hopes that you will remember her for her kindness and generosity, Chex mix and knitted dish cloths. Much to the chagrin of many of her family members, she was an ardent Cubs fan.
