Vivian Lora Ames, 100, a resident of Rensselaer, Indiana, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021.
Vivian was born in Morocco, IN on December 14, 1920, at home to John and Ida (Beckwith) Robbins.
Vivian graduated from Mt. Ayr High School with the Class of 1939. She married the love of her life, Herman DeVere Ames, on September 19, 1942, in Rensselaer, IN and he preceded her in death on August 28, 1999.
Vivian was a homemaker who loved everything about the farm. She was an excellent cook and baker. Everyone loved her hot rolls, and everyone was welcome at her table.
Vivian was civic minded and worked as a judge at elections until she was in her nineties. She belonged to bunco groups and home economics and was a member of the Mt. Ayr Methodist Church. She wore a smile on her face as she sold fruit at a stand on Route 114, which attracted many return customers.
Vivian loved sharing things from her garden and fruit trees. She was a loving, kind, giving mother who will be missed greatly. Vivian is survived by her children, Sharon (Dennis) Orr of St. John, IN, Karen (Steve) Forte of Yelm, WA, Randal Ames of Morocco, IN, Kenton (Tamara) Ames of Fair Oaks, IN; grandchildren, Julie Olson, Kimberly Nelson, Aimee Orr-McNally, Brett Ames, Nick Ames, Natalie Whisker, and Nick Bittick; eleven great-grandchildren.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; sister, Cora Marie George; son, “Rick” Eric Brian Ames, grandsons, Robert Scott Orr and Matthew Kenton Ames; daughter-in-law, Debra Ames.
