Vivian E. Best, 90, of Middletown, passed away on August 10, 2016 at Miller’s Merry Manor Middletown. She was born on August 21, 1925 in Anderson, and resided most of her life in Middletown.
Vivian attended Daleville High School, and on December 17, 1941 She married Joseph F. Best, and they began farming, and raising a family. She worked as Secretary Treasurer at Markleville School and then at Pendleton Heights High School after the consolidation into South Madison Schools until her retirement in 1988, after 31 years of service. She was co-owner of Best Farms Drive-thru Feed Barn from 1987-2006.
She was also known as the “Sign Lady” at the Feed Barn. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and the Middletown Order of the Eastern Star #110. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She was an avid Euchre and Scrabble player. She was a good judge of character. Her judgment led Gene to meeting Alice, which has led to 38 years of happiness.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Joanna Roberts of Sea Bright, NJ, son, Joseph E. “Gene” (Alice) Best of Middletown, son-in-law, Steve Psikula of Lebanon, grandchildren, Stephanie (Psikula) (Tony) Malagari of Cincinnati, OH, Stacey Psikula of Wilmington, NC, Shelley Psikula of Lebanon, Julie (Roberts) Fleming of Rumson, NJ, Danny Roberts of Denver, CO, Joseph Dustin (Mika Shepherd) Best of Middletown, Audra (Jimmy) Best Wise of Middletown, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph F. Best, on April 30, 1990, daughter, Judy Kay Psikula, mother, Bertha Nelle(Hasty) Makepeace, and her father, Willard Makepeace.
The family would like to give a “Special Thanks” to Dr. Harp, and to all of the past and present staff at Miller’s Merry Manor in Middletown that took such wonderful care of “Momosan”.
