Virginia Wood, July 13, 1928 – June 5, 2014.

Virginia Wood, 85, of Belton. Mrs. Wood died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at her home in Belton. Mrs. Wood was born July 13, 1928, in Brown County, Kansas, the daughter of George Frederick Burgert and Estella Bundy Burgert. She married Donald David Blair July 20, 1950 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Captain Blair died while in Vietnam, April 24, 1969. She later married John Wood, March 15, 1973 in Gatesville.

He passed away February 11, 1977. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Larry Burgert and Valeta Burgert Callahan. Mrs. Wood was a registered nurse. She worked for many years at the Temple Veterans Hospital. Following her retirement from the Veterans Hospital, she worked at Crestview Manor in Belton, Regency Manor in Temple, and William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple until December 2013.

Survivors include son Jesse Blair and wife Shelly of Belton; two daughters Jo-Anne Campbell and husband Charles of Ringgold, Georgia and Jean-Marie Smith and husband Stephen of Arlington; four step sons John Wood of Garland, Patrick Wood of Chicago, Illinois, Norman Michael Wood of Missouri and Mark Wood of Germany. Two step-daughters Kathy Epperson of Colorado and Yvonne Wood of Temple. One brother Jim Burgert of Council Bluffs, Iowa, three sisters Patricia Yager of Marysville, Kansas, Annalee Gilbert of Binghamton, New York and Judy Gilliland of Hiawatha, Kansas. Three grandchildren Donald Blair and his wife Lindsey, Bill Mefford and his wife Emily, and Cody Blair and his wife Kristen; four great grandchildren Colby Mefford, Lauren Blair, Brittany Andrews and Copelyn Blair. Nine step-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren.
