Virginia Belle Mitchell Hurd, 93, of Snow Creek, VA died Sunday, March 14, 2010. She was born on December 5, 1916 in Franklin County, VA to the late Lawson Mitchell and Bessie Frances Bennett Mitchell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, B. Justus Hurd; brother, Glenn Mitchell and sister, Ina Hundley. Mrs. Hurd was a life long resident of Snow Creek and was a member of the Snow Creek Christian Church. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and cooked for the children of Snow Creek Elementary School for 32 years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed showing her love for others through cooking and baking. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Robert Button of Snow Creek, VA and Dale and Tom Strickler of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Lois Hundley of Martinsville, VA and Edith Wingfield and her husband, Melton of Wilmington, NC; brothers, Talmadge Mitchell of Martinsville, VA, Russell Mitchell and his wife, Cassie of Atlanta, GA, Howard Mitchell and his wife, Betty Lou of Snow Creek, VA and Andrew Mitchell of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, David Strickler and his wife, Elena of Ramseur, NC, Catherine Campe and her husband, Rich of Charlotte, NC; Carrie Thompson and her husband, J. Haywood of Charlotte, NC, Ben Strickler and his wife, Cheryl of Niceville, FL and Rob Button and his wife, Kristi of Fayetteville, AR; great-grandchildren, Camden and Lawson Campe, Ellie, Anna and Kate Thompson, Taylor and Thomas Strickler and Connor and Riley Button and 24 nieces and nephews.
