Virginia “Cookie” Mary Hartney, 56 of New Britian, formerly a long time resident of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Born in Southington, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Maxine (Bull) Hartney. Virginia spent her time with her friends at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain where she has been a resident for 38 years. She befriended many residents and assisted in their care by taking them under her wing and making sure that they were well. “Cookie”, who received her name for her passion for eating Oreo cookies, was as feisty as she was friendly. She loved sharing the potholders that she would make with everyone she new. The courage she showed in life helped give others the strength to get through difficult times. She saw the beauty in everyone and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind her brother Michael Hartney and his wife Sheryl of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; an uncle Dr. Edward F. Hartney and his wife Norma of Kensington and Stuart, FL; her aunts Mary Salomone of Plainville, Irene and Sal Mute of Bristol, Florence Bull and Lucy Bull of Plainville; a nephew Michael Hartney, Jr.; her cousins Dr. Donald Salomone, Thomas Hartney, Ricky Mute, Gerald Salomone, Allan Salomone, Richard Bull, Bruce Bull, Walter Lipski, Sally Mute, Barbara Bull Sorel, Mary Jane Bull, Laura Bull, Gina Lipski, Cathy Hartney, Corrine Hartney Carrie Hartney, Colleen Hartney and a special cousin Thomas Hartney, Jr. She was predeceased by her brother Daniel J. Hartney.
