Virginia “Ginny” Mae Popa Jenkins, age 77, of 93 Tallahassee Road, Georgetown, South Carolina, formerly of Salem, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at her home surrounded by her grandchildren, Jennifer and Alex, daughter Lisa and loving husband Ellwood.
She was born, February 20, 1935 in North Georgetown, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ambrose Sr. and Mina “Minnie” (Mijea) Popa. Virginia was a 1952 graduate of Salem High School and retired from Georgetown Memorial Hospital as a transcriptionist.
Her husband, James Ellwood Jenkins, whom she married July 20, 1977, survives her along with a son, Steven Harbert of New Hampshire; stepson, Rodney Jenkins of Nebraska; daughter, Lisa Jenkins Cole of Texas; sister, Minnie Cerbu of Salem; brother, Ambrose “Jr.” Popa of Salem; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A son, Daniel Harbert; a daughter, Janet Saunier; brother, Arnold Popa; and a sister, Mary Elliott preceded her in death.
