Virginia M. Ginny Powers, 83, of Mishawaka, IN, died at 10:55AM Monday, January 14, 2008 at Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center in South Bend, iN.
She was born on August 17, 1924 to the late Louis H. and Florence E. (Farrow) Burkhardt in West Palm Beach, FL, and has lived in South Bend since 1944, coming from Palm Beach, FL.
Mrs. Powers retired in 1971 from Powers Plumbing and Heating, Inc. in South Bend, N, where she served as Vice President for 21 years.
On May 21, 1944, as Virginia Burkhardt, she married Richard P. Powers in Palm Beach, FL. He survives.
Along with her loving husband Richard, of 63 years; she is survived by her three sons, Richard P. (wife Ching-Chun) Powers, Jr. of Mt. Juliet, TN; James L. (wife Jo) Powers of Chatham, IL; William E. (wife Sue A.) Powers of South Bend, iN; seven grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Powers was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Parish; a former member of Corpus Christi Parish; and a charter member of St. John the Baptist Parish, where she served as past president of the Rosary Society. She was also a long time volunteer at the Leighton
Center for Senior Health and the College Football Hall of Fame. Virginia was an avid Notre Dame fan, and was loved and cherished by all who knew her.
