Virginia Louise Smith, age 86, of West Hyattsville, MD, formerly of Grafton, died peacefully on Monday, June 25, 2012, at her home of 54 years. She was born in Grafton, November 16, 1925, to Lula Clyde (Fawcett) Shaw, and Howard Samuel “Banty” Shaw. She was well known as “Siz or Sissy Shaw” She was the youngest daughter of ten (10) children. She is survived by her brother Charles “Charlie” and his wife Janice Shaw of Grafton. She and her first husband, Floddin Buell “Gandy” Marsh had two children, Linda Louise and Beverly Sue Marsh. They divorced and she married Robert Joseph Smith in 1955, and celebrated over 50 years of marriage before his death in 2006. Virginia was a very devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was very involved with her family, community and friends. She was a member and worked in the nursery of Trinity Baptist Church in West Hyattsville, Maryland for 16 years. She volunteered at the local nursing home plus helped so many of her friends in the final months of their lives. Those who knew her knew she had a zest for life and was always the center of attention. She could entertain a crowd with telling a joke, showing tricks, singing a song, and not to mention, the best dancer in town. She was always, “The Life of the Party” and will be terribly missed. She leaves behind her daughter, Linda L. Vaughan and son in law, Raleigh K. Vaughan and daughter, Beverly Shapiro DeRosa and son in law, and driver, Terry DeRosa. Her grandchildren include Robert Keith Vaughan, his wife Karen and their son Zachary, Eric Dell Vaughan, his wife Gretchen and their children, Gabriell, Shelbi, Eric and Sydnie, Christine Wayne and her son Kyle, Beverley Dunlap, Jennifer Levenberg, and her husband Randy and their sons, Austin and Cash, Melissa Richards, and her husband Deon and their children, Janette, Sheleigh, Christiana and Addison, and Samantha Shapiro and her father, former son in law, Kenneth J. Shapiro. In addition to her husband she was preceded by: her siblings were Adeline “Addie” Turoczy and Betty Ball, Grafton, Evelyn “Sue” Mills, Howard F. “Bud” Shaw, William C. “Billy” Shaw, Lila Knight, George Edward Shaw, and Richard Kenneth “Jack” Shaw.
