Virginia “Jeanie” S. Bass, age 63, peacefully entered eternal rest with the Lord early Monday morning, May 20th, 2019, in her home in Danbury, CT.
She was born May 23rd, 1955, to the late Emilia (Sousa) and Manuel Cabral, at Danbury hospital, the very same hospital where she would later have three of her four daughters. The first daughter was in Palatka, Florida, with two German Sheppard dogs at her feet, of course. She attended Danbury High School. Virginia married Billy Bass on May 29th, 1971, in Danbury, CT at St.
Jeanie had several occupations in her life, all equally diverse jobs, some of which her most meaningful life lessons that she instilled in her family came from. From working at the Plaza Cinema (Do you know what it takes to run an entire cinema?!
Virginia’s favorite job was being a loving mother, and diligent, affectionate grandmother. No one went hungry at the house of Bass, and Jeanie was known for whipping up a delicious meal. She also had no problem dominating any who dared to play her in poker, bowling, candy crush, roller skating, but absolutely not in guitar hero (even legends have weaknesses). Virginia may one day be noted for her abilities as a gifted linguist for her creation of “Jeanie dialect”, or remembered for her unique renditions of popular music. Virginia also loved old movies and could cover a house with Christmas decorations in every square inch (the tinsel will be found for the next century). She also collected many treasures, and would frequently vacation with family on the beautiful white sand beaches of St. Augustine, Florida.
Virginia loved the Lord, and above everything else she would want to extend the thought of what having God in your life actually is, or more so, the peace in Our Savior through belief of Christ. She was also a mother to many people throughout her life. Any person, no matter the issues they may have been struggling with, she would extend her arms and heart out to. She had such an empathy in her heart that enveloped those who were lost or hurting in life.
Virginia treasured lighthouses and in many ways she was a beacon that lit up the night for many, serving faithfully to warn or guide others from danger. “For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness” 2 Samuel 22:29.
Virginia is survived by her husband and soulmate, Billy Bass, and their three daughters; Elaine Bass, Melissa Whichard, Annette Braun, and son in law Eric Braun. One sister, Maria Fernanda Bento; three brothers, Louis Cabral, Lawrence Cabral, and Edward Cabral, as well as her grandchildren Isabella Rosario, Michael Belcourt, Jr., Jahnessa Whichard, Zachary Belcourt, Nicholas Belcourt, Alyse Jean Braun, and Olivia Braun.
She is predeceased by her daughter Shelley Lynn Bass, grandson Johnny Matthew Whichard, sister Alcina Knapp, and brother Armenio Cabral.
