Virginia J. Sims, 102, of Jacksonville, IL died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at Heritage Health.
She was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Cal and Myrtle DeFreitas Vieira. She married Albert Sims on Nov. 20, 1941, in Fort Riley, KS, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1983.
She is survived by one son, Bill (Arlene) Sims of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Paitra (Chris) Gibson, Bobby (Jessica) Sims, and Scott (Molly) Sims, all of Jacksonville; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bob Sims (surviving wife Lynn of Jacksonville); her sister, Catherine DeFrates; and her twin brother, LeRoy Vieira.
Mrs. Sims was a 1937 graduate of Jacksonville High School. She had worked as a secretary for Jenkinson Wholesale Grocery Company in Jacksonville for 40 years. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church until it closed and had also attended First Baptist Church. Virginia was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at both VFW Post #1379 and American Legion Post #279, and was a lifetime member of Jacksonville Sportsman’s Club. She had also volunteered at Jacksonville Food Bank.
