Virginia Dorothy Gowdy was born in 1924 in Blakaslee, Pennsylvania. She obtained her nursing degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She was employed by the Phoenix Nursing School system and Solvay, New York school system as a school nurse teacher. Virginia also worked as a nursing instructor at Syracuse University and as a New York State mental health counselor.
She is survived by her husband, Les Gowdy of Crestview, Florida, two children; Robert Gowdy of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Janet Grisham of Crestview, Florida. Her son Ronald Gowdy preceded her in death. She has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
