CLEARFIELD – Virginia passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer and kidney failure on January 12, 2013, surrounded by her children.

Virginia was born September 22, 1932 to parents William Charles McDougal and Mottee Anna Anderson in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was the older sister to Howard McDougal.

Virginia lived all over the US, parts of France and Germany with her family and husband who was enlisted in the US Air Force. She finally settled in Chesapeake, Virginia where she finished raising her family. Virginia moved to Utah nearly 16 years ago where she was able to live closer to her family.

She was the heart and soul of our family and she will be missed dearly. She worked tireless hours and difficult jobs for little money to support and care for her family. She was generous to all. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. She is our family treasure.

Virginia loved to cook. She had that “southern hospitality” in her soul. Whenever someone would come to the house to visit, she was eager to share her joy of cooking with them by fixin’ them something to eat. She also loved dogs, gardening, bird watching, sewing, reading mystery novels, and spending time with her family.

Virginia would reminisce with her grandchildren of what life was like when she was young. She was always telling humorous stories of growing up with her brother. These stories weren’t necessarily meant to be funny, but she was an entertaining story-teller.

Virginia is survived by her brother Howard McDougal; children Davy Mellott and Annabel (Ron) Matthews; grandchildren Adam (Neally) Matthews, Dawn (Jack) Matthews, Sonja (Craig) Cunningham, and Matthew Debois; great-grandchildren Taleah and Anna Cunningham, a cousin, and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents William Charles McDougal and Mottee Anna Anderson; sons George James Mellott and William Randolph “Randy” Mellott.
