Virginia Gayle (McClellan) Stamper age 70, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, December 22nd surrounded by her family.  Gayle was born August 20, 1950 in Whitmire, South Carolina.  While she resided with her husband Bill in Rockledge, Florida, they previously lived in Spartanburg, South Carolina; West Liberty, Kentucky; London, Kentucky; Union, South Carolina; Winter Haven, Florida;  and Charleston, South Carolina.

Gayle is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Dr. William J. Stamper;  her daughters Rebecca Stamper (Neal) of Columbia, South Carolina and Laura Chaney;  son-in-law  John Chaney;  and two granddaughters that she adored Carolina Chaney (8) and Isabelle Chaney (3) all of Rockledge, Florida.  She is also survived by three sisters Kathy McClellan of Union, South Carolina; Jane Vaughan of Union, South Carolina and Lynn Gladden of Chester, South Carolina; and Sally McClellan of Columbia, South Carolina;  and one brother John Ray McClellan of Union, South Carolina.  Additionally, Gayle loved and was loved by her nieces and nephews: Dottie Adams,  Monty Vaughan, Michael Vaughan, and John Ison. She was also the proud great aunt of a grand niece and nine grand nephews.  Gayle also had chosen family of Clayton Walters of Las Vegas, Nevada;  Karen and Kevin Jackson of Lakeland, Florida; Ian Jackson of Jacksonville, Florida; and James P. Laurens of Saint Simons Island, Georgia.

She is preceded in death by her parents Claude and Dorothy McClellan of Union, South Carolina; a sister Linda Williams of Whitmire, South Carolina; a nephew James Paul Ison of Ft. Myers, Florida; and an infant son Willie.

She is a graduate of Union High School and has an associates degree in nursing from the University of South Carolina, Spartanburg.  She worked as a nurse at Spartanburg Medical Center (formerly Spartanburg Regional Hospital), primarily in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and as house supervisor.  She also worked as a nurse at the West Liberty Hospital.  She also worked as a health education nurse in the Polk County school system for many years.

Gayle and Bill were members of Faith Viera Lutheran of Rockledge, Florida.

Gayle loved being with her extended family and enjoyed being able to celebrate occasions together. Walt Disney world in Florida was her happy place and she enjoyed sharing the experience of the happiest place on earth with as many of her friends and family as possible. She celebrated her 70th birthday at Disney surrounded by loved ones.

Gayle had a generous and  loving spirit.  She was known for leaving very generous tips as she loved to eat out almost every meal.  She would not let anyone pay for a meal in her presence.
