Virginia Faye Jones, age 88, of Rensselaer passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Jasper County Hospital Alternacare. Virginia was born May 16, 1921 in Wolcott, Indiana, the daughter of the late Otis and Emma (Anker) Hazelgrove. She attended the Buffalo High School in Buffalo, IN.
Virginia’s first marriage was to Howard F. Jordan who preceded her in death on August 18, 1944. She later married Francis “Ralph” Jones on February 2, 1952 in Rockville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1990.
Virginia retired from the Kankakee Valley Schools where she was a custodian at the high school. In 1962 she opened Jones Grocery which she owned and operated for 12 years, and it later became known as Fisher’s Grocery. Virginia had also operated several restaurants in and around the community. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of DeMotte.
Virginia enjoyed spending her time with family and her church work.
Virginia is survived by her children, Howard (Glenda) Jordan, Rensselaer, Jean (William) Griffey, Kouts, and Ruth (John) Burns, Sharon (Larry) Chapman, Ralph “Lee” (Kathy) Jones, David (Patsy) Jones, Arlene (Morgan) Wireman and Marlene Emmie (David) Wilson, all of Rensselaer, one sister, Betty Cleefman of Monticello, 21 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, four brothers and two granddaughters.
