It’s fitting that our wife and mother Virginia Esther Bentley Nye should pass away at this Christmas season. She loved everything about Christmas; spending time with family, decorating her home, shopping for the kids and grandkids, baking, making homemade gifts, going to parties and just having fun. She returned home to her Heavenly Father and Savior on December 3rd, 2020 after a very short battle with the COVID-19 virus. She had been battling and losing her fight against dementia and previously survived open-heart surgery and breast cancer. Our mother’s life began in Carbon County, Utah in the Standardville Hospital. She was the 2nd child born to two wonderful parents, Ray Lewis and Shirley Ester Bentley, and lived her earlier years in Price and Carbonville. When she was a preteen her family moved to West Warren, Utah where she would spend most of the rest of her life. Virginia met her future husband Curtis Terry Nye when she was 12, at the home of a friend, and married him at the age of 17. She chose to leave high school her senior year to begin a family. Together they raised 5 beautiful children: Kim (Fred) Schmidt, Lori (Jerry) Teela, Sandy (Mark) Hutchison, Lynda Brett (Dean Brett), Jeramie (Cindy) Nye. She loved babies and being a grandmother and welcomed into this life 19 beautiful grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Our Mother’s career in life was working in her home for her family but she also worked outside of the home as her children grew. She worked at the “Old” Weber High School as a lunch lady for several years and had the opportunity to earn her high school diploma in 1981, an accomplishment she was very proud of. She also worked for many years for Davis Meat Packing.
Virginia was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various callings throughout her life but her most loved calling was serving a 2 year mission alongside her husband in the Kentucky Louisville Mission sharing her testimony of the gospel and her love of our Savior Jesus Christ.
Our mom had many talents. She first and foremost loved people and made many dear and sweet friends throughout her life. Her favorite activities were camping and traveling, reading, scrapbooking, making things with her hands through sewing, crocheting, fabric painting, ceramics, plastic canvas, etc. and enjoyed teaching these things to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister Carma Shuter, nephews Martin Perez and Jamie Perez, and nieces Penny Fritzler, Sheri Snyder, Michelle Anderson, and Rebecca Warth. Her siblings-in-law Gary (Susan) Nye, Ron (Marleen) Nye, Ty (Marlee) Nye, Connie Harding, Dawn (Tim) Chatelain, Deborah (Elmer) Yates, Annette (Wayne) Wilson, Teresa Stephens and nieces and nephews too numerous to list.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Martin Bentley, Deloy Bentley and Lawrence Bentley, sister Kathy Jones and brother-in-law’s Keith Jones and Hugh “Mike” Harding, her parents, her father and mother-in-law Donald O and Afton Marjorie Nye, her grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Lotus Park Assisted Living, Rocky Mountain Hospice, and Encompass Hospice.
