Virginia E. Mezynski, August 3, 1922 – June 12, 2016.
Virginia E. Mezynski, died Sunday June 12, 2016 in Temple, TX at the age of 93.
Virginia was born August 3, 1922 in Cadillac Michigan. She studied in a one room schoolhouse through the 8th grade, worked for her room and board in order to attend high school in town, and graduated college from Michigan State University. She taught Home Economics for 13 years in Michigan high schools in Mesick, Charlotte and Wayland, and was also employed by Michigan State as an advisor to the student teachers.
Virginia was married to Paul Mezynski on July 5, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac, the same church where she was baptized and confirmed. They were married for 57 years, and enjoyed a life together around the world. Paul’s career as an agronomist led him to work in Brazil and India, as well as numerous states in the US. They settled in Riesel in 1975 and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 30 years.
Virginia tackled each new location with a sense of adventure and enjoyed each experience to the fullest. Virginia was also a consummate hostess, taking great pleasure in working through every detail to ensure her guests were properly welcomed and of course well fed. With all of her travels, Michigan remained a constant hub throughout her life – she and Paul would return to Michigan regularly for family visits, which they very much enjoyed.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Paul and her sister Ethel Trout. Survivors include her sister Hazel Lautner of Traverse City, MI, her daughter Susan and husband John Fratamico of San Diego CA, son Walter and wife Janet Mezynski of Temple, TX; grandchildren Russell and his wife Larissa Mezynski of Riesel, TX, Lauren Fratamico of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Ryan Mezynski of New Braunfels, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
