DURHAM Mrs. Virginia Dare Turner Byrd, 78, of Durham, died at her home on Monday, January 20, 2014.
Mrs. Byrd was born in Warrenton, N. C. to the late Rufus Turner and Josephine Moore Turner. She was a former owner of Byrd’s Barbeque. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She loved playing cards with Frances, Wallace, Kathy and many others. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Byrd.
She is survived by her loving companion, Tommy Pittman; two sons, Travis Richard Byrd of Durham and Michael Douglas Byrd and wife, Angela of Creedmoor; daughter, Faye Canada and husband, Billy of Rougemont; sister, Beulah Clark of Henderson; four grandchildren, Jennifer Faye Davis, Travis Richard Byrd, Jr., Rachel Ann Byrd and Katelyn Nicole Phillips; six great-grandchildren, Jamie Mulholland, Dustin Mulholland, Rayni Wilkins, Richard Byrd, Travis Byrd and Felicity Brickles.
