On Thursday, May 19th God in heaven saw that it was time for his servant Virginia Daniel Aldridge to find her perfect healing and eternal reward. She breathed her last breath in this life and came before the God she had trusted and believed in for all of her life. She also joined her family who had preceded her in death. Her parents Oscar Dewey and Oscie Dale Kemp Daniel, her beloved husband James Nix Aldridge, and her dear sons Alan and Mark were there to greet her.

Virginia was born September 29, 1925, in a rural part of Carroll County. Following high school, she married her sweetheart James Nix Aldridge and began a love story that lasted for 66 years until his death in 2011. In 1947 Virginia and James moved to Newnan where James would be working with the Coweta-Fayette EMC which had just begun operations. It was in Newnan where they would spend many happy years as they raised a family of three boys. Virginia and James were charter members of Newnan First Christian Church which was formed in 1951. During the years the boys were young, Virginia’s life was devoted to her family and her church. She found opportunities for service in the choir, Ladies’ Council, and as a children’s Sunday school teacher. After her youngest son joined his brothers in school, Virginia began to work outside the home. She first worked for Hershel Norred in his finance company. She later became secretary to Charles Byrd at Western School. As Mr. Byrd assumed duties in other schools, Virginia would follow. She eventually became part of the life of East Coweta High School. Virginia was a diligent employee and a faithful friend to those with whom she worked. In all that she did in life, she upheld the principles found in the book of Micah – that you act justly, that you love tenderly, and that you walk humbly with your God. Virginia also would add, that you should always look your best. She made it a point to look nice for James when he came home from work no matter how trying the day had been with three rowdy boys. She felt like he deserved to see her at her best. In 1998, James and Virginia moved to Christian Village and began a new chapter in life. They became an integral part of that community but never lost touch with their Newnan friends. Virginia would also become active in Lester Road Christian Church. After James’ death, Virginia moved to The Oaks of Carrollton to be nearer her family. Virginia was always an eternally optimistic person. The loss of two sons and her husband could not diminish her strong belief in her creator, for she knew full well that this life was not the end. She ended her life journey in the full and certain knowledge that the best was yet to come. Virginia is survived by her son Gary Aldridge and his wife Kara of Carrollton, daughter-in-law Jean Aldridge of Aloha, OR, and daughter-in-law Deborah Aldridge of Gulf Shores, AL. Her brother is Robbie Daniel of Georgia.

Also surviving is a sister-in-law Ruth Hewitt of Cave Springs, GA. She was grandmother to Alan Aldridge of Norfolk, VA, Ashley Weyer, and her husband Adam of Due West, SC, Jonathan Porter, and Matthew Porter of Carrollton, GA. There are 12 great-grandchildren and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
