Virginia was born on December 27, 1935, in Las Animas, Colorado to Domingo and Maria (Montoya) Duran, Virginia was the youngest of this union, and subsequently, siblings to her father’s second wife Frances, after her Mother’s passing at a young age. Virginia passed away on October 17, 2021, at the Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 85.

Virginia attended Rixey School before moving on to Las Animas High School in Las Animas Colorado, where she remained living into her early 20s.

After meeting and marrying her husband Dale in Las Animas, they moved to Lamar, Colorado to make their home. From their marriage, came four children: Gale, Ernie, Rox, and Scott. All were a very happy and loving family, deeply devoted to both Virginia and Dale throughout their surviving years.

Although Dale’s work in the oilfield more than provided for them, she continued to work, holding various careers as an operator for Bell Telephone Systems and as a Caretaker at Cinderella Nursing Home in Lamar, before retiring to become a full-time homemaker.

She was an active member in the church and Bible studies throughout her many years, where she forged many lasting friendships she greatly cherished.

Throughout her many years, she enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends, visiting them often. Her greatest joy, however, was being a devoted wife and mother to her husband and four children, and in her later years, and grandmother and “nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Virginia was regarded as a beautiful, caring soul by many, and will be deeply missed, but forever remembered and celebrated for the love she brought to everyone who encountered this beautiful soul.

She is preceded in death by her husband Everett Dale Carberry; her parents Domingo and Maria Duran; grandson Kody Neill and siblings Jack Furphy, Joe Duran, Josephine Gonzalez, Maria Garcia, Guadalupe Palacios, Janie Martinez, and Victoria Rodriguez.

Virginia is survived by her children Gale Neill of Lamar, CO, Ernest Carberry of North Platte, NE, Vicki (Deborah Pickeral) Carberry of Pueblo, CO, and Scott (Sarah Tacznosky) Carberry of Denver, CO; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Ruthann, Lewis, Henrietta, Charlie, Theresa, Trinidad, Domingo, and Cecelia, many of who knew her as “Grandma” as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other families, and many friends.
