Virginia C. Metz-Jokisch, 88, of Jacksonville, died Friday, December 7, 2012, at Passavant Area Hospital after a brief illness. Virginia was born December 17, 1923, in Perry Township, Illinois, the daughter of William McKinley and Irene Dorsey Metz. She married Darrell Jokisch in August of 1957 and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1991.

Surviving are three children, Dr. Karen Hardy-Vinson (Michael), Stephen Hardy, and Marsha Groce (Thomas Anthony); two grandsons Erik Young (Tammy) and Jared Young (Debrah); and three great-grandchildren, Rory and Morgan Young and Athen Young; two brothers, Carl Metz (Marilyn) of Versailles and Orlando Metz (Julie) of Palmyra, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Wilma Logsdon; and one brother, William Roger Metz.

Virginia was a 1942 graduate of Perry High School. During World War II, she worked at NESCO in Jacksonville making parachutes for flares and 50mm shells. She and Darrell owned Darwin Company for 35 years. They also enjoyed a retirement home in Ft. Myers, Florida. She had early aspirations of being a school teacher and was, indeed, a Sunday school teacher and the church’s Sunshine Lady. She enjoyed traveling across the country by many modes of travel from tents to a large pull-behind camper. She also enjoyed deer hunting, mushroom hunting, and a variety of family cats throughout the years, especially Tippy, Hugger, and 42.
