Virginia Blackburn Murphey of Newnan died April 30, 2011 at her residence. A native of Walnut Cove, North Carolina, she was born June 2, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Dr. H. E. and Mrs. Helen Morgan Blackburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Hutchinson “Doodle” Murphey. Mrs. Murphey worked for many years in the business established by her husband, Murphey Florist. She was a past member of the Newnan Hospital Auxiliary and served as a volunteer, known then, as “Pink Ladies”. As her children grew up in Newnan, she was a constant presence serving as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader. While living in LaGrange, she had taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church. She was a member of Newnan First Baptist Church. Surviving Mrs. Murphey are her children: Sally Murphey Morgan and husband Harrel of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Alice Berry Murphey Taylor and husband Tom of Irving, Texas, Bradley H. Murphey of Newnan, E. Hutchinson Murphey and his wife Mary Jane of Newnan. Her grandchildren are Sarah Beth Morgan Thompson and Josh, Murphey Morgan, Ansley Murphey Folds and Zack, Jennie Murphey, Kathy Murphey, Hutch Murphey and Mac Murphey. Also surviving is her sister Betty Blackburn of LaGrange, Georgia.
