Sebring – Virginia Beckert, age 96, died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Crandall Medical Center in Sebring. She was born April 2, 1917 in Salem, the daughter of the late Carl F. and Susan (Shull) Young. Virginia was a graduate of Salem High School. She was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church and was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Godfrey M. Beckert, whom she married October 2, 1943, preceded her in death on May 3, 2010. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Gretsinger, and Dorothy Wecht, and a brother, Carl F. Young. Survivors include a son, Robert Beckert of Canton; two daughters, Barbara Munder of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Jane Dobbins of Geneva, Illinois; a sister, Martha Parks of Sebring; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
