Those left to honor Virginia’s memory include her son, Dick Allen of Newton; daughter, Judy Allen of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandchildren: Tammy Smith of Newton and Tim (Judy) Allen of Riverside, California; four great-grandchildren: Nathan and Nicholas Smith and Chelsea and Alisa Allen; her sister, Lucille Snodgrass of Newton; and various nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Rolla W. and Mary E. (Parkinson) Brooks; husband, Leonard in 1974; and two brothers, Benjamin and Verne Brooks.
Virginia graduated from Newton High School in 1929. She attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. She worked as a librarian for 18 years at the Newton Public Library, retiring in 1965.
