Lorraine Bigman, 68, of Burnham, New Mexico passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 in Shiprock. She was born January 19, 1950, in Burnham to Tom and Mae Bigman. Her clans are Hasht l’ishnii (Mud people clan), T l’aashchi’i (The Red Bottom People clan), Dzi l t l’ahnii (Mountain Cove clan) and Nooda’i dine’e (The Ute clan).
Lorraine was currently employed with The Department of Veteran Affairs as an Account Maintenance Specialist in Shiprock for over 30 years. She went to Toadlena Boarding School and Shiprock Boarding School. She graduated from Fort Wingate High School in 1969. She attended Haskell Junior Indian School for Nursing, and obtained her clerical certificate from San Juan College in 1985 and her Associates Degree in Business Administration in 1986. After college she served two terms as a secretary for Burnham Chapter House.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her father, Tom Bigman, mother, Mae Bigman, brother, Billy Bigman, sister, JoAnne Whitehorse, brother, Harry Bigman, nephews: Travis Canuto, Leland Platero and Niece, Michelle Whitehorse.
Survivors include her only son, LeAndrew Bigman, grand-daughter, Shade Sanchez, and great-grandson, Nattiel Sanchez, sisters: Ella Bigman, Loretta Bonney, Elsie Bigman, Louise Canuto, Laverne Platero and Irene Atencio, brothers: Nelson Arthur, James Bigman, Harrison Bigman, and Wilson Bigman.
Nieces, Alberta Baker, Roberta Bonney, Veronica Canuto, Savannah Atencio, Sammantha Atencio, Donielle Bigman, Laree Johnson, Lavonne Platero and Lacresha Platero. Nephews: Brandon Bonney, Tommy Brown, Nelson Atencio Jr., Stinsen Bigman, James Bigman Jr., Stepson Stepsen Bigman, Micheal Bigman, Mitchell Bigman and Elliot Platero. Grandchildren: Caleb Caunto, Justin Caunto, Cody Toledo, Arnalda Yazzie, Alicia Johnson, Hallie Johnson, Andre Baker, Andres Bonney, Meilani Bigman, Tiana Bonney, Memphis Atencio and Emilio Atencio.
