Virginia Ann Fuchsen, 85 of West Bend died Wednesday December 29, 2010 at the West Bend Care Center. Virginia Laubenthal, the daughter of Adam and Mary (Hartman) Laubenthal was born February 1, 1925 in West Bend.
She first attended country school, then Sts. Peter and Paul’s grade school and graduated from the West Bend High School in 1942. She worked at the West Bend Elevator Company until her marriage to Orval Fuchsen on November 16, 1947 at Sts. Peter and Pauls Church in West Bend, where she had remained a faithful member. Orval and Virginia established their home and farmed north of West Bend during their married lives.
Survivors include her children Richard (Carolyn) Fuchsen of Wilmer, Alabama, John (Susan) Fuchsen of Brighton, CO, Robert (Nancy) Fuchsen of Des Moines, IA, Ronald (Donna) Fuchsen of Marshalltown, IA, Suzanne (Bruce) Ray of Centenial, CO, and William (Christina) Fuchsen of West Bend, IA, 7 grarandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brother Thomas Laubenthal of West Bend, IA, and sisters Rosella Metzger of Emmetsburg, IA, Carol Schmidt of West Bend, IA,and Julie Montag of Omaha, NE.
Virginia worked hard at being an ideal wife and mother, immaculate housekeeper and a great cook. She loved traveling and had been to most every state with the exception of Alaska. Her travels also included Europe in 1992 and 1999,as well as many different destinations for Army reunions, even after Orval’s death. Gardening, especially raising flowers, was important to Virginia as well as playing cards. She often complained about the hand that she was dealt, then proceeded to win.
Virginia also enjoyed sewing projects and playing bingo at the legion club. She was preceded in death by her husband Orval, parents, Adam and Mary Laubenthal, brother Marvin Laubenthal and sisters Mary Margaret Davies and Ada Mees.
