Anita Bailey, 93, Rossville, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011, in a local health care facility. She was born December 8,1917, in Eastland, Texas. As the granddaughter of a Confederate Soldier who fought at Battle of Chickamauga. Anita spent many years as an avid genealogist and family researcher. She was a Charter Member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Catoosa Chapter #1987. Anita returned to school in mid-life and graduated in 1973 from the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing. Anita was so very proud of becoming a registered nurse and enjoyed many years of nursing. She was a past member of American Nurses’ Association – District 4 Tennessee Nurses Association, Chatauba Chapter ABWA. Her hobbies were painting, reading, writing, crafts and computer researching. Anita was a long-time supporter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Salvation Army. Both of Anita’s grandfathers were ministers and Anita was married to a minister. She was a devout Christian and loved her lord and family. In her writings Anita emphasized that she “had been a child, woman, wife, mother and professional person, but the most satisfying role was that of mother.” She was preceded in death by her parents, James Bryan Pope of Roane County, Tenn. and Verda Mae Owens Pope of Blount County, Alabama; husband of 74 years, Odene Bailey; sons, Harold Dean Bailey and Robert Leslie Bailey. Survived by children, Johnny (Wanda) Bailey, Punta Gorda, Florida, Patricia A. (Harold) Silcox, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, Joyce L. Kent, Rossville, Georgia, David (Cheryl) Bailey, Monroe, Georgia; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren living throughout the United States.
