Virgil Widby, 82, a Lordsburg resident, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at La Posada Nursing Home in Las Cruces, NM.

Virgil was born July 21, 1933 to May Bell Cagle and Cecil Widby in Knoxville, Tennessee. His career was with the United States Army from which SFC Virgil Widby retired. Virgil came to Lordsburg in 1972 from El Paso where he worked at Ft. Bliss and was also an auditor for Travel Lodge. Locally he owned and operated the Myers Motel, Lordsburg Movie Theatre and the Range Restaurant. He always kept himself busy and also worked at Collins Freeway Chevron, had a vending machine business, as well as taking care of rental properties.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Widby, of the home; sons, James Widby and wife Liz of El Paso, Texas, Virgil J. Widby of Hanover, New Mexico, and Frank Widby of Tucson, Arizona; step-son, David Young of Peoria, Arizona; daughters, Shelley Widby of El Paso, Texas, and Sylvia Widby of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sisters, Beatrice Widby, Shirley Pickens and Betty Jo Hankins; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and his wife, Nancy.
