Virgil Stroud Prince, 98, died Jan. 26, 2018 at the Karesh Long Term Care Center. He was the father of Nancy Tucker of Camden.

He was born in Morganton, N. C. in 1919, the son of William McKinley and Mary Burns Prince. He was a graduate of Morganton High School and was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theater.

Following the war, Virgil worked for the Drexel and Henredon furniture companies before starting his own cabinetry and furniture-making business in the early 1970s. His meticulous attention to detail and dedication to quality were evident in the cabinets and furniture he produced.

He was also known for his easy-going disposition and ability to get along with others.

Virgil was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church in Morganton, where he sang in the choir for more than 70 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy, and her husband, Glenn; grandchildren Lauren, Rebecca, Gibson and AnnaTucker; great grandchildren, Bess and Harriet Tucker; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Carrie Rader Prince.
