Virgil M. Goodpaster, 76, Fairmount, passed away March 3, 2009 at Marion General Hospital-Marion after a brief illness. He was born October 7, 1932 in West Baden, Indiana, and resided in Fairmount since 2003.
He previously had lived in Frankton for 25 years. Virgil served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1988 from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors after 36 years of service. He had previously pastored in the Alexandria area for several years.
Virgil loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife whom he married November 19, 1977, Alma Fisher Goodpaster of Fairmount; six children, Robert Dema Goodpaster of Anderson, John Goodpaster of Bedford, Virginia Don Goodpaster of Seymour, Steven Dee Goodpaster of New Castle, Ronald Eric Goodpaster of Alexandria and Angela Cortni Campbell of Virginia; five step-children, Nora Campbell of Anderson, Richard Campbell of Anderson, Ronnie Campbell of Anderson, Donna Kay Campbell of Anderson and Rickie Campbell of Anderson; siblings, Calvin Goodpaster of North Vernon, Donald Goodpaster of North Vernon, Connie Taulman of North Vernon, Kay Ryan of Alexandria, Jimmy Goodpaster of Eustis, Florida, Beverly Francis of Hope, Leroy Goodpaster of New Port Richey, Florida; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys & Ted Goodpaster and siblings, Alyene Richards, David Goodpaster and Martha Thomas.
