Virgil Baker, 85, Anderson, passed away June 30, 2011, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis Indiana after a brief illness. He was born August 20, 1925, in Wise, Virginia, and resided in Anderson since 1947.

Virgil served his country in the US Army during WWII Battle of the Bulge earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired as a millwright from the Delco Remy Division of General Motors. Virgil was a member of Huntsville Good Shepherd Community Church.

He is survived by his wife whom he married on March 29, 1947, Leeota “Lee” Beverly Baker; children, Martha Mullins Douglas of Celina, Tennessee, Douglas Baker Tamra of Nashville, Tennessee, Brenda Reimer Michael of Carmel, and Cheryl Taulman Chris of Pendleton; sister, Katherine Covey of Leesburg, Florida; brother, Frank Baker Virginia of Wise, Virginia and Richard Baker of Rootstown, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Schuyler & Sarah Skeens Baker; brothers, Milford Baker, Arlie Baker, Herbert Baker, Clarence Baker, and John “Jimmy” Baker and sister, Odith Bevins.
