She is clothed with strength and dignity.

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

She provides food for her family. She is worth far more than rubies.

A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

(Words from Proverbs 31)

Violeta Reyes Gayotin

1929 – 2021

Blessed ~ Loved ~ Celebrated

As we mourn the loss of our precious mother, Violeta Reyes Gayotin, we also give glory and thanks to God for the peaceful and comfortable way she departed this earth on October 20, 2021.  She was very much loved and will be deeply missed.  Her children took loving care of her.  Violeta was preceded in death by her beloved husband and handsome soulmate, Alberto Gomez Gayotin, whom she loved very much; they were together about fifty-three years before the Lord called him to his heavenly home nine years ago (10-11-12).  Violeta is survived by her four children, six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.  Her three sons are Clifton Glenn Gayotin (wife Bambi, sons Jordan and Vincent (wife Becca and daughter Atalie)); Christopher Warren Gayotin (wife Veronica, daughters Tori and Nicole); and Albert John Gayotin.  Her daughter is Gladys Jane Gayotin Woode (husband Stacy, daughter Natasha and son Sean; Lexus, our sheltie – lol).  Oh, how she took care and loved all of us.  She also loved her children’s friends and welcomed them in her home.  She was a praying mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother… a praying woman.  She read the Holy Bible devotedly.  She was beautiful inside and out.

Violeta (fondly known as “Voly,” “Violy,” “Violet,” “Mama”) was born in Cavite, Philippines, on December 31, 1929, to Ramiro Alberto Reyes and Juanita Sarinas San Agustin (both deceased).  Four siblings predeceased her: Carolina, Leticia, Antonio, Ramiro Jr.; Lourdes and Erlinda are her surviving sisters.  Mama was very close to her grandparents/grand-aunts and grand-uncles, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and many other relatives (her husband’s side, as well) who she held so very dear to her heart.  She was a cherished favorite of several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, and grand relatives.  She leaves behind many loving relatives, precious godchildren, and wonderful friends.

Violeta was an amazing woman, faithful wife, and dedicated mother.  She was strong, brave, and persistent.  She worked hard to get her children to America.  She lived for several years in Singapore, Canary Islands, Spain, and Malta before settling down in the United States.  She traveled and stopped over many cities and countries: New Delhi, Dubai, Amsterdam, Rome, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona, and a few others.  Through all these adventures, she had her 4 young children in tow with her!  As her husband worked offshore for an oil drilling company and would be gone weeks or sometimes months, she carried the weight of being both a father and a mother to her children.  She helped provide for her family with her great talent as a seamstress.  She was sewing at the young age of about eleven, selling what she sewed during the Japanese occupation of 1942.  She had awesome stories to tell about this war era, about underground and guerilla activities and how it affected her family and relatives.  She eventually owned her own dress shop in the Philippines, and when she later lived in Stockton, California, she became an entrepreneur and continued with her sewing profession for many, many more years.

It isn’t easy to keep a story short about Mama, with her well-lived ninety-one years (and ten months) of age.  Not everyone is given the chance to grow old; she did it gracefully and humbly.  She was a peacemaker, and we give her honor.  We will treasure our beautiful memories of Violeta.  God bless and rest her soul.  (10-20-21)

Violeta’s family is grateful to family and friends for the outpouring of sympathy, love, kind words, and comfort during this difficult time.
