VIOLET SWANSON MACGILLIVRAY

    Violet passed on peacefully from her full life on April 13 2010 surrounded by beloved family members. She was born of Gunnar and Olieve Lundberg Swanson, February 19, 1919 in Casselton North Dakota.  Her family moved to Santa Fe because of her mother’s health in 1924. She attended Lorreto Academy and later graduated from Santa Fe High in 1937. She married Captain Allan MacGillivray of Santa Fe in 1941 while he served as an Army Air Force officer during WWII.

     After the war they returned to Santa Fe in 1945 where they raised a family which included sons Allan III, Duncan, Walter C. Donald W. and daughter Janet. She was preceded in death by her parent’s, brother Donald, husband Allan and son Donald W.

     She is survived by son Allan III, (Mac), of Santa Fe, son Duncan and Wife Mary Ann of Sierra Madre, Ca. and grandchildren: Michael, Catherine, Monika and Andrew.  Walter (Frosty)MacGillivray and wife Lynnette. Grandchildren, Christopher MacGillivray; Kirk and wife Melanie, Lachlan and wife Bree, Heather and Ashley; great grandchildren: Scott Patrick, Beckham and Liam. Daughter Janet Mutz and husband David of Eagle Nest, N.M. and grandchildren, Gunnar, Kevin, Kody and Kelli; also great grandchildren Maurine, Sean, Davan, Madison and Tobias. Sister in law Jean MacGillivray Seth, nieces Laurel Seth of Santa Fe and Sandy Seth of Ranchos de Taos, niece Mia Prieskorn and son Bo and family of Las Vegas, N.M. and old friend Molly MacGillvray and sons/ nephews Jim and wife Jody, Jack and wife Cindy and families of Albuquerque; Charlotte MacGillivray and nephew Ian, and niece Anita, cousin’s Cathy and Mike Lundgren of Las Vegas N.M.

Besides raising her family Violet was an avid skier, golfer, bridge player and gardener. She was involved in local activities for many years.  She was a charter member of the

Council on International Relations, the Junior Welfare Association, early member of The Santa Fe Garden Club, The Santa Fe Country Club besides being involved in Boy and Girl Scout and Job’s Daughters activities. She helped form The Santa Fe Dolphins, a competitive swimming club. She was also a member of Chapter “F” of Santa Fe PEO, The Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, and a volunteer at the Hospice gift store.
