Violet F. (Coons) Rapacky, 90, of Waterbury, formerly of Plainville, passed away with her family by her side, on Thursday, August 25, 2011.  She was the wife of the late Edward Rapacky, Sr.

Born in Bristol on June 13, 1921, Violet was the last surviving of four children to the late Howard and Edith (Allport) Coons.  She attended local schools, and was employed as a press operator for Peck Spring and Fafnir Bearing, retiring in the mid 1970’s.  She and Edward raised their family of four in Plainville, to which Violet was entirely devoted.  A proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved nothing more than being surrounded by her family and caring for her grandchildren.  She made a hobby of knitting, and found joy in cooking and baking.  Violet leaves her family with many happy memories, and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her sons, Edward Rapacky, Jr and his fiancé, Rosemarie of Torrington and Howard Rapacky and his wife, MaryLou of Hartford; her daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine Rapacky and Bill Shattuck of Burlington, Barbara and Gary Hunt of Farmington, Joanne and John Wilson and family of Wolcott and Edith and Joe Bernath and family of Bristol.  She also leaves her grandchildren, Edward Rapacky, III and his wife, Tricia, Kimberly Rapacky and Ryan Hunt, and her great-grandsons, Edward Rapacky IV, and Ethan Rapacky.  She was predeceased by three sisters, her grandson, Eric Rapacky and her great-granddaughter, Grace Rapacky.

The family extends their appreciation for taking care of Violet to the Avon Health Center and McLean Hospice.

Honoring Violet’s wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.
