Viola E. Ellis, 93, of New Baden, died February 27, 2008, at her son’s home in Harbor Light Bay north of Carlyle. She was born February 3, 1915, in New Baden, IL, the daughter of William and Louisa (Schrag) Brede. She married Frank Ellis in Granite City on January 6, 1945, he preceded her in death on July 2, 1992. She is survived by her son, Terry (Michelle) Ellis of Carlyle; two grandchildren, Mark (Karin) Ellis of Smithton and Cory Ellis of Freeburg; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tori, Kayce, and Karcyn Ellis, and Zach Logan. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin “Dick” Brede and Harold Brede and one sister, Pearl Gribler. Mrs. Ellis was a homemaker. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and the Women’s Guild of New Baden.
