Viola “Chub” Herrington, 93, of Troy, Ill., born July 25, 1922, in Marine, Ill., passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.
Viola was a faithful member of Troy United Methodist Church and long time resident of Troy, Ill. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and volunteered many hours at church.
She was a Graduate of the class of 1940 at McCray-Dewey High School and was very proud of being the oldest living attendee at the last class reunion. Chub was a proud member of the Madison County Republican Committee and was honored to receive the Eleanor Schulte award for outstanding service to the republican party.
She retired in 1984 from Triad School District where she had been a bus driver for many years. She had been active in the PTO, TOPS, Women of the Moose, and Boy Scouts. Chub and Murill loved to travel, going to World War II Navy reunions and then wintering many years in Arizona. She enjoyed collecting jewelry and helping her son with the giant slide at the State Fair in Springfield, Ill. She loved her children and grandchildren but was most proud when she was blessed with her first great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murill Herrington, whom she married Nov. 21, 1942 in Troy, Ill., and who passed away Jan. 23, 1995; and her parents, George and Hilda, nee Busse, Feldmeier.
Surviving are her children, Dennis Herrington of Troy, Ill., and Dawn (Frank) Stillwagon of Troy, Ill.; grandchildren,Heidi, Gordon and Hanna Stillwagon, Jill (Joe) Herrington-Bilyk and Dr. Kelly Herrington; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Bilyk.
