Viola L. (Brettmann) Schardt was born April 14, 1924 at Republic County, Kansas the daughter of August and Elsie (Bahe) Othling. She departed this life Monday December 19, 2011 at Bryan LGH in Lincoln, NE at the age of 87 years.
She was baptized on May 11, 1924 and confirmed June 12, 1938 both at Peace Lutheran Church by Pastor Fred Schwerin in Deshler. Her confirmation verse was Romans 10:10 “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Viola began her schooling in Republic County Kansas where the family lived. In 1935 the family moved to Deshler, NE. Viola attended District #60 Peace Lutheran School and graduated from Deshler High School with the class of 1941.
On November 27, 1943 Viola was united in marriage with Edwin Brettmann at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons. Viola and Edwin celebrated 41 years together, 15 years on the farm before moving into Deshler. Viola worked various jobs, Russell Stovers, school lunch program, and Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, embroidering tea towels and giving them to her grandchildren.
