Vincenzo “Vinny” S. Nocera, age 71, of Hummarock, formerly of Boston and the Province of Salerno in Italy, passed away Thursday, November 15, at the BID Hospital in Plymouth. He was the loving father of Alessandra Nocera of Norwell, and Natascia Nocera of Boston. Grandfather of Maximiliano, age 9. Brother of Giuseppina, Rocco, Gerardo, Biagio, Salvatore, Mario, and the late Andrea. Vinny was born in a small town on the Amalfi coast, Sciano, on June 5, 1947, son of the late Luigi and Angelina (Faiella) Nocera. He came to the United States in 1968 at the age of 21. He worked as a mason later starting his own construction business, D & N Construction. In 1991, he elaborated his passion for food and wine and began his career as a restaurant entrepreneur. He started with his first location, Trattoria Il Panino in Boston, 27 years ago. Vinny later opened another location in Norwell and then changed the name to Trattoria San Pietro which still exists today. He then opened several other establishments including Café Strega and Tuscany Tavern in Plymouth ( both still operative ), Ristorante Barolo in Hyannis, Taverna Toscana in the North End, and Ristorante Vesuvio in Pembroke. Vinny’s restaurant legacy will continue under the care of his two daughters.
