Vincent Scaffidi passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 95 on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at the Webster Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Vincent was born in Newton, Massachusetts, December 29, 1925. The son of the late Leonardo and Francesca Scaffidi. Vincent proudly served in World War II as Seaman 1st class in the Coast Guard. His post-war career with Pittston Stevedoring Company in New York saw him rise from dockworker to Vice President, responsible for the company’s operations along the entire East Coast. Known for his sharp negotiating skills and ability to bring management and labor together, Vincent was well respected within the shipping industry.Vincent met Barbara, his wife of 56 years, on a beach in New York and married 3 months after they met. They enjoyed a beautiful life together and raised their three children in Somerset, New Jersey. Known affectionately as PopPop, Vincent loved to play golf and spend time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid NY Yankees fan.Surviving are his three children; Len Scaffidi and his wife Paula, Frances Carpenter and her husband Michael Mastaby and Marianne Scaffidi; five grandchildren; Brendan, Michael, Ryan, Adrienne and Victoria; and four great grandchildren; Keegan, Bridget, Amelia, and Clara. Vincent is also survived by his brothers Joseph, Leonard and Mario; and his sister Tina, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, brother Frank and sisters Mary and Lucy.
