Vincent Samuel Marino, beloved master plumber, crabber, gardener and dear friend to all who knew him, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the BridgingLife Hospice in Westminster, Maryland. He was 90 years old.

A hard working man who loved so many elements of Maryland culture, Vince was born on February 11, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, to his late parents Samuel and Concetta Marino, both of Sicilian heritage, the former having immigrated from Italy and the latter being the first generation United States natural born citizen of her family.  Vince was raised Roman Catholic, attended Catholic school growing up and continued to have a strong faith throughout his life, attending the St. John Catholic Church in Westminster with his family. Some of Vince’s earliest memories were helping his father sell produce at their family stall in Hollins Market, a historic public outdoor market in Southwest Baltimore, where he gained an extensive knowledge and passion for fruits and vegetables as well as a customer service mindset that carried with him throughout his life.

Vince was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, in which he served honorably during the Korean War, sailing around the world on the USS Samuel B. Roberts DD-823 as a pipefitter.  It was during this time that he met his future wife Marion while stationed in Boston and learned the valuable plumbing trade that would carry him through his life.  Once his service to his country was completed, Vince worked to become a master plumber, eventually founding the successful family business in 1976 that would become Vince Marino Plumbing & Heating, Inc., as it is known today, owned and operated by his son Vincent R. Marino.  Through this company he trained generations of future tradesmen and family members who he passed on his incredible talent while supporting the plumbing and heating needs of the Baltimore community and surrounding areas with his charm and attention to providing premium quality service.  Vince loved to work and couldn’t imagine retiring so he continued to help out with the family business in a light duty capacity up until his passing.  Most attribute his health and longevity to both his diet and the fact that he never stopped moving.

When not working as a plumber, Vince found recreation in pastimes that most would also say were hard work, such as gardening and crabbing. It was the latter where he perhaps found the most joy, by sharing his passion for the Chesapeake Bay and the bounty that could be obtained from within its waters.  As a recreational crabber, Vince would take his children, friends, coworkers, and grandchildren out on these priceless summer adventures to his favorite spots on the Chester and Wye Rivers.  The Wye River in particular became an integral part of the family story with the iconic state tree, the Wye Oak, soaring bald eagles, tranquil waters and picturesque tree-lined shores where Vince would find great peace.  Vince would argue that the Wye River is “Heaven on Earth” and produces the most beautiful and heaviest of all the Chesapeake blue crabs, which on a particularly successful outing would pack a bushel basket or two that he could steam and take home to share with a grateful family.  He gladly passed down his crabbing techniques and passion for these special places and all that calls them home to his grandchildren who will continue to carry on this family tradition for generations to come.

Vince is survived by daughters and sons-in-law; Stephanie and Larry McDaniel of Virginia Beach, Connie and Tom McDaniel of Westminster and Sharon and Tony Mawry of Westminster, son and daughter-in-law; Vincent R. and Laurie Marino of Hampstead, sister; Dora Welsh of Westminster, brother; Joseph Marino of Westminster, grandchildren and spouses; Jason McDaniel, Melanie Reyes and Ike, Scott McDaniel and April, Lauren Matiyko and Brandon, Jake and Sam Marino, Kendyl First and Chad, Dominic, Alex and Isabella Mawry, great grandchildren; Chandler, Peyton, Chloe and Lilli Reyes, Madison, Liam and Sawyer Matyiko, Jude McDaniel and his brother who is due in March 2022, and Abigail First. He was predeceased by his sister Felicia Reilly and grandson Larry McDaniel.  His beloved wife Marion Rose Marino passed away in 2008.
