Vincent Joseph (Joe) Perez III

V. Joseph (Joe) Perez III was called to his final reward on June 14, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 84.

He was born in New Orleans on March 31, 1932 to V.J. Perez Jr and Shirley Roux Perez. Joe is survived by the love of his life, Mary Conti Perez. They had 4 children whom he adored, Judith, Paul, Laura Houte (Steve), and Ann. As much as he loved his children, his grandchildren brought him much joy. From the first, Teresa  Kloepfer Stockton (James), to the last, Eric Houte, with Lauren Kloepfer (fiance Josh Olsen),  Preston (Rachel), Blake (Elizabeth), Russell and Kaitlyn Perez, Jessica and Kayla Houte in between, he loved them all. Imagine the thrill when James Jr and William Stockton were added as the great-grandchildren.  Joe was the official ‘big brother’ to Robert Perez (Laura) and Beverly Perez Watts. Although he was often put in charge of his siblings, he didn’t overstep his authority and they both always looked up to him.

Joe graduated from Jesuit High School, class of 49 and Loyola University in 1953.  To fulfill his military duty he joined the Army and was sent to Germany as part of the post WWII peace keeping force. After those 2 years he returned to the city of his birth and joined the fledgling Bank of New Orleans, serving for 27 years, achieving the position of Executive Vice President. It was there that he met and married Mary, a marriage that has lasted 57 years. He and Mary loved to travel and they did it to their hearts content after retirement. Being adventurous, they climbed mountains and soared in hot air balloons, with Mary in the lead, but Joe willingly following along. They read the newspapers prior to each weekend to see what was happening in the city of New Orleans, then off they went to the chosen play, music event, fair or festival. Joe loved music and singing.  He was a member of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Barbershop Chorus for 27 years, even travelling around the country to barbershop conventions to compete.

Joe and Mary were founding members of Resurrection of Our Lord Parish in New Orleans East.

He served on the Board of St. James Major High School and the Council for Resurrection of Our Lord Parish, Joe was a member of the Okeanos Parade Organization, the ROOL Carnival Club, and the Four Fins.
